Commissioned by the Prime Minister, we led a national competitiveness assessment in close collaboration with the Sasin Graduate School of Business and the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB). Our work analyzed Thailand’s overall economic performance and conducted deep, data-driven evaluations of five strategic industry clusters, with a notable emphasis on the automotive sector—a sector in which Thailand aspired to become a regional leader. The resulting strategy provided a balanced approach, combining a holistic national roadmap with targeted, sector-specific action plans. While political instability in subsequent years slowed the full implementation of certain reforms, many of the cluster strategies laid during this period took root, fueling growth in high-potential sectors and contributing to Thailand’s continued position as a major automotive exporter.
