Amit Kapoor, Ph.D., is Chair of the Institute for Competitiveness, President of the India Council on Competitiveness, and Chair of the Social Progress Imperative and Shared Value Initiative in India. He is an affiliate faculty member for the Microeconomics of Competitiveness and Value-Based Health Care Delivery courses at Harvard Business School’s Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness, and teaches with Harvard Business Publishing in the areas of strategy, competitiveness, and business models.

Dr. Kapoor is the author of Riding the Tiger: How to Execute Business Strategy in India (Random Business) and The Age of Awakening: The Story of the Indian Economy Since Independence (Penguin Books), and serves as editor-in-chief of Thinkers, a leading quarterly thought-leadership magazine.

Under his leadership, the Institute for Competitiveness has pioneered India’s competitiveness and social progress measurement frameworks, including the Ease of Living Index, Municipal Performance Index, Innovation Index, Export Performance Index, and Social Progress Index. These initiatives have been adopted by national ministries and smart cities across India, shaping public policy and promoting inclusive growth. Dr. Kapoor also played a key analytical role in developing the Competitive Roadmap for India@100, guiding diagnostic and strategic work on the nation’s long-term competitiveness agenda.
