Jon Azua, Ph.D., is a Principal Associate at the Porter Development Initiative (PDI), bringing over three decades of experience bridging government, business, and academia in the fields of competitiveness, innovation, and shared value. A former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Industry and Energy in the Basque Government, he has combined senior leadership in public policy with strategic management roles across global industries.
Dr. Azua has held board positions in industrial, healthcare, energy, social, technological, and financial firms, and senior partnership roles in international consulting, leading large-scale strategy and transformation initiatives. His professional and academic work has connected him with global institutions such as the World Economic Forum, Harvard Business School’s Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness (MOC Network), and Orkestra – The Basque Institute for Competitiveness, where he served as founding chair of its Advisory Board.
He holds degrees in Industrial Engineering from the Universities of Anáhuac, UNAM, and the Basque Country, an MBA from IESE – University of Navarre, and a Doctorate in Business and Public Administration from LaSalle University (USA).
