Jorge Ramirez Vallejo

President

Serves as President of the Porter Development Initiative, where he leads strategy design and project execution focused on enhancing national and regional competitiveness. At PDI, Jorge guides multi-stakeholder initiatives that apply cutting-edge frameworks in shared value, economic strategy, and cluster development to advance inclusive and sustainable growth. Currently, he directs the Guyana Development Initiative and supports projects across Latin America and the Caribbean, helping governments and private-sector leaders align economic growth with long-term social impact.

Jorge has worked closely with Professor Michael Porter for over a decade, serving as Principal Associate at the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness at Harvard Business School and coordinating the global network of over 120 universities teaching the Microeconomics of Competitiveness (MOC) course. He has co-authored numerous Harvard Business School cases on strategy, shared value, and regional development. Beyond academia, Jorge has held senior leadership roles in Colombia’s public sector, including President of the National Development Bank (FINDETER) and Director General of the Colombian Institute for Water Resources (HIMAT). He has consulted for institutions such as the World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, and the United Nations. Jorge holds an MSc in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University and both an MSc and Ph.D. in Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota.
