Rich Bryden

Senior Consultant

Is a Senior Consultant at the Porter Development Initiative, where he leads analytical work on cluster mapping and regional competitiveness. With over two decades of experience designing and managing large-scale data systems, Rich specializes in transforming complex datasets into actionable insights that inform policy and economic strategy. At PDI, he brings deep expertise in geospatial analysis, economic assessment, and data-driven development planning across diverse regional contexts.

Previously, Rich served as Director of Information Products at Harvard University’s Institute for Strategy & Competitiveness, where he managed the U.S. Cluster Mapping Project and collaborated with Professor Michael Porter to develop competitiveness indicators and cluster-based tools. His portfolio includes leading data strategy for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s national cluster mapping, contributing to The World Bank’s spatial economic analysis in Vietnam, and authoring competitiveness reports for U.S. states such as Oklahoma and Maine. He holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University.
