Shyam Nokta is a distinguished specialist in natural resources and environmental management, climate change, and green growth. He is the founder of Environmental Management Consultants Inc. (EMC), one of Guyana’s premier environmental service firms, and currently serves as the Honorary General Consul to Norway in Guyana and the Chief Representative for the Caribbean for The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).
Mr. Nokta has a rich history in public service, having served as Head of Guyana’s Office of Climate Change and Adviser to the President. He was instrumental in developing Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) and was a principal negotiator for the landmark US$250 million REDD+ partnership with Norway. He continues to provide technical advice to the President on climate change and biodiversity. A leader in the private sector, he has served as President of the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA) and is currently Vice President of AMCHAM Guyana. Mr. Nokta holds a Master of Science from Oxford-Brookes University and is a recipient of the Anthony Sabga Award for Caribbean Excellence in the field of entrepreneurship and the Strait of Magellan Award.
