Silvio Borrero Caldas holds a Ph.D. and a Master’s in Management from Tulane University (USA), an MBA from Universidad Icesi (Colombia), and degrees in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Cali (Colombia).
He is the Inaugural William Seale Professor of Business and Chair of the Department of Economics and Business at St. Mary’s College of Maryland (USA). Previously, he served as Dean of the School of Economics and Business Administration at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Cali and as Chair of the Management Department at Universidad Icesi. Over his 25-year academic career, he has led multiple strategic, accreditation, and curriculum innovation processes— including AACSB, AMBA, and national accreditations— strengthening the quality and global positioning of Latin American business schools.
Dr. Borrero has advised corporations and public institutions in strategy, corporate governance, and organizational transformation across sectors such as education, manufacturing, infrastructure, and healthcare. He has served on several boards, including the Colombian Institute for Education Evaluation (ICFES), Colegio Colombo Británico, and Omega Ingenieros, and as a member of AACSB’s Latin American and Caribbean Advisory Council.
His research and teaching focus on strategy, organizational behavior, innovation, and management education. A member of international networks such as GLOBE and MaCuDE, he is also on the editorial board of the Journal of Management for Global Sustainability and a peer reviewer for multiple academic journals. He has received distinctions from CLADEA, AACSB, and Javeriana University for innovation in management education and contributions to leadership development.
